Mary Elizabeth WHITTEN

WHITTEN, Mary Elizabeth, age 77, of Swartz Creek, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012 at Willowbrook. Funeral Services will be 11AM Monday, July 23, 2012 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Pastor Kevin Harbin officiating. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be Sunday 1-4 and 6-8PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association. Mary was born December 16, 1934 in Mt. Pleasant the daughter of the late George Emett and Beatrice (Gibson) Caltrider. She married Alvis Whitten on August 6, 1966 in Mt. Pleasant. Mary graduated from Central Michigan University earning her Bachelor Degree in Education. She taught at Flint Community Schools and Swartz Creek Community Schools until her retirement in 1984 after 27 years of employment. Mary was a faithful member of Swartz Creek United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bowling, walking, golf, cooking and baking. Mary also played piano and loved music. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving are her husband of nearly 46 years, Alvis; daughter, Debra Ann Pakkala (Joe) of Flint; 2 granddaughters, Melissa Hustak (Keith), Lindsey Moore (Zach); brother, Wayne Caltrider (Patricia) of WA.
