Mary Lou Tijerina, age 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 1, 2023, with her loving family surrounding her.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday July 6, 2023 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Grand Blanc. Pastors Abe Garcia and Ezequiel Torres officiating. (The funeral may be viewed by livestream at Mrs. Tijerina's page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.) Interment in Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Blanc.
Visitation will be held 5-9 PM Wednesday, July 5 with a Memorial/Sharing Service at 7PM; and visitation 10 AM Thursday, July 6 until the time of the service at 11 AM.
Mary Lou was born on August 6th, 1931 in Driscoll, Texas as Maria Luisa Adrian, daughter of Clara Gomez and Luis Adrian.
Mary Lou was a pioneer of the Latin American Assembly of God Church in Flint, MI and through many trials and tribulations, she remained determined and faithful to her church. She served as a member, board member and treasurer for many years. She will always be remembered as a Prayer Warrior, as well as her kindness and generosity to those less fortunate.
Mary Lou was married to Donato Tijerina on February 27, 1950 and was able to have a beautiful celebration of 70 years of marriage before Donato’s passing in 2020.
Even though Mary Lou only had an elementary education and knew very little English, she taught herself to read and write both in English and Spanish. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide at St. Joseph Hospital for 19 years, retiring in 1985. Her husband also retired that year and they were blessed with a trip to Hawaii, which she spoke of often.
Mary Lou is survived by her sons, Donato Jr. (Cynthia), Danny (Tina), daughters Mary Vizcarra, Dora Saucedo and Delphine (David) Garcia. She is also survived by her sister, Gloria Gaona in Texas. She has numerous other close friends and family members in Texas and Michigan to cherish her memory. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her beloved husband Donato Sr, son Joe Luis Tijerina, grandchildren Jonas and Chano (Joe) Tijerina. Also preceding her in death are her siblings Marcelino, Saragosa, Pedro, Arturo, Consuelo and Sulema.
