Mary Jean SMITH

SMITH, Mary Jean, age 88 of Swartz Creek, died Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Kith Haven. She was born in Adrian, MI on December 7, 1920 the daughter of Rex and Sarah (Baughey)Maples and had lived in the Flint area for many years and Swartz Creek since 2000. She graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1939 Mrs. Smith was an office worker for the Flint Electrical Workers Union # 48, retiring after 10 years. She was a member of the Royal Quarter Couples Club; and enjoyed many years of square dancing. Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Gebhardt in Florida, a son David Smith of Swartz Creek. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren: Timothy (Kimberly) Toporek, Anthony (Angelique) Toporek and Michelle Smith; 4 great-grandchildren: Jessica, Joseph, McKenna and Morgan Toporek; A sister, Virginia Scott and two brothers, Donald Maples and Thomas (Sarah) Maples along with many nieces and nephews and a dear friend, Marge Rutherford. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, a son Anthony, a brother and 3 sisters and her husband Channing Drake Smith September 17, 2003. Cremation rites have taken place. A family memorial service will take place at a later date.
