Mary Helen O'Brien

O'BRIEN, Mary Helen - Age 87, of Howell, formerly of Linden, died August 17, 2011. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, August 22, 2011 at St Joseph Catholic Church, 9450 Duffield Rd., Gaines. Fr. Robert McKeon celebrant. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Saturday, 1-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St, Linden, and 10:00 AM until the time of Mass Monday at the church. A Rosary will be prayed at the funeral home 6:30 PM Sunday. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mrs. O'Brien was born February 6, 1924 in Gaines, the daughter of John and Genevieve (Cooney) Stevenson. She graduated from St. Benedict High School in 1941 and Michigan Normal Teachers College in 1947. During WWII she was a "Rosie the Riveter" and worked in the factory, she was also teacher at Flint Central High School. Mary was a wonderful mother and always had a smile on her face. Surviving are: children, Ann O'Brien, Susan (Ronald) Griffith, Kathryn (Gerald) Freeman, Joan (James) Gehringer, Thomas O'Brien, Timothy O'Brien, James O'Brien, Barbara (Charles) McCain, Dr. Dennis O'Brien and John O'Brien; brothers, Richard and John Stevenson and 13 grandchildren; special friend, Melvin Bumstead.
