Mary Alice (Hobby) McHugh age 85 of Fenton, MI, passed away at 6:38am, November 27, 2021 at St Joseph Mercy in Pontiac, MI after a long illness.
Mary was born March 20th,1936 in Muskegon, MI, the daughter of Dale and Mary Margaret (Colvard )Hobby.
Mary was a good student and an avid reader which helped her skip a grade in school. That led to an early graduation which changed her life's path. While attending Lincoln High School in Warren, Michigan, she was involved in many different activities including four years of cheerleading where she met and fell in love with all-around athlete Daniel Richard (Dixie) McHugh. After graduation in 1953, they were married on January 22nd 1954 in Centerline Michigan.
Mary was a homemaker that made sure her family came first, but also held positions ranging from lighting saleswomen to an accountant for Sears. She was involved in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Linden, Michigan.
Her interests included the Nankin Mills Players group where she was involved in many plays, camping with her family in Harrisville, Michigan, the Grand Blanc Women's Club and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also helped her husband build many houses throughout Michigan, the last one being on Lobdell Lake in Linden where they resided for 26 years of their 67 year marriage.
She is survived by her husband Daniel McHugh of Fenton, her daughters Debra (John) Smeltzer of Lake Fenton, and Shereen (George) Roykouff of Fenton; her sons Daniel (Alicia) McHugh of Ann Arbor and Robert McHugh of Fenton. She was preceded in death by her son Brian McHugh of Davison. The family would like to acknowledge and thank granddaughter, Kelsey McHugh, for her special sweetness during her grandmas last months.
Aside from the children, she is survived by many 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, 7355 Silver Lake Rd. Linden, on Saturday, January 22 at 2:00pm. A luncheon will follow the service.
