McDONALD, Mary Ellen - Age 76, of Swartz Creek, died Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Durand Convalescent Home, Durand. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Sharp Funeral Home, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek with Pastor Lawrence Gill officiating. Interment of her cremated remains will take place at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10:00 AM Thursday, December 4, until time of service. Those desiring may make contributions to Avalon Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association. Mary was born March 26, 1932 in Flint the daughter of Harold Joseph and Mary Gretchen (Brown) Gire. She married Clayton Franklin McDonald April 8, 1959 in Flint. She worked at Kith Haven Nursing Home as a Nurses Aide for 15 years. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Durand Senior Center for their exceptional care of our wife and mother. Surviving are: husband, Clayton Franklin; 2 sons, Tony of Swartz Creek, David (Crystie) of Goodrich; 4 special grandchildren, Nicholas Gregory, Mary Gregory, Kevin Vial, Kelly (Kevin) Smith; special great granddaughter, Autumn Smith; sister, Jackie (Gerard) Wrice of Swartz Creek; 4 sisters-in-law, Mary Lou (Kirk) Powers of Highland, Fran (Robert) Jelinek of Suttons Bay, Jeanette (James) Hewitt of Ubly, Leona McDonald of Gilbert, AZ; niece, Kellie Wrice of Highland; cousin, Marion Davies of Swartz Creek; several other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Helen Mansberry; brother-in-law, Harvey McDonald; sisters-in-law, Jean Reese and Josephine Taylor.
