Mary Ellen Burkett

February 24, 1922 — August 29, 2004

BURKETT, Mary Ellen  Age 82, of Flushing, died Sunday, August 29, 2004 at Genesys Health Park. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. The family will receive friends from 12 PM until the time of service Wednesday. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Mrs. Burkett was born February 24, 1922 in White House, OH, the daughter of Leonard and Josie Bauman. She married Lee Daniel Burkett on February 24, 1941 and he preceded her in death on June 23, 1988. Mrs. Burkett was a true artist in many different mediums including painting, ceramics, fabric, drawing, china painting, and cake decoration. She was a 4 H Leader for many years and enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and traveling. She traveled to Arizona for many winters with her husband. Mrs. Burkett loved line dancing and belonged to a line dancing club in Spring Hill, FL that performed for the elderly. She was active in the Westchase grandparents PTA in Tampa, FL. At age 79, she took up Karate and Tai Chi and learned to break boards. Surviving are: four children, Sharon Gerner of MN, Robert Burkett and wife, Margie of Flint, Vickie and husband, Jerry Stevens of Flushing, Teresa and husband, Ronald Trybus of Wesley Chapel, FL; seven grandchildren, Daniel James Gerner, Jodi, Jamison, Jennifer and Jesse Burkett, Adam Stevens, Tyler Trybus; six great-grandchildren, Joey, Alexandria, Britney, Tyler, D.J. and Matthew; four brothers and sisters, Bruce, Joseph and Charlene Bauman, Garnet Hayden; several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by: her parents; son-in-law, James Gerner; brother, Neil Bauman; sister, Zita Weaver.
