ABERNATHY, Mary Jane -- Age 86, of Swartz Creek, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at The Pines Assisted Living in Swartz Creek. Graveside services will be held 1 PM Friday, May 18 at the Riverside Cemetery, Andrews, Indiana. Visitation will be held 5-7 PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society. Mary was born in Andrews, IN, on December 31, 1920. She graduated from Michael  Reese Hospital of Nursing, Chicago, IL, in 1942 and also practiced as a registered nurse at McLaren Hospital in Flint. She was the first General Foreman, Head Nurse at General Motors, Truck and Bus. After retiring, Mary moved to Indianapolis, IN, where she developed many friendships through her volunteer work and hobbies. She was an avid sports fan, volunteered many hours to the Republican Party, and loved animals. She is survived by her son, Michael Crawford; daughter-in-law, Louise Booth; great-great-grandson, William Murphy, all of Swartz Creek; niece, Juanita Lucas and children; nephews, Hubert Abernathy Jr. and family, William Abernathy and family; long time friends, Ann Grange and husband John of Indiana, Krista Howe of Montrose; and many other friends.
