Marvin Alexander McKenzie

September 25, 1943 — September 8, 2024

Grand Blanc

McKenzie, Marvin Alexander, age 80 of Grand Blanc, surrounded by the love of his family, went to be with Jesus on September 8, 2024. A funeral will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, September 16, 2024 at the Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center located at 6063 Fenton Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM and on Monday, from 12:00 PM until the time of service.  Flint Central Church of the Nazarene, located at 1261 Bristol Road will be hosting a dinner for anyone who would like to join in fellowship immediately following the burial.

Marvin was born on September 25th, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Princeton Elementary School and Chippewa Junior High School in St.  Clair Shores before moving to Oscoda. His love for water began in a blue house on Lake Huron. Boating, fishing and hunting are hobbies he enjoyed avidly. He graduated a proud Oscoda Owl on June 11, 1963, where he played ice hockey, football, and enjoyed many teenage shenanigans that he referenced often. Being the oldest of 3 brothers and his “baby sister,” fostered his inherent kindness, patience, and love for kids. Marvin met the love of his life, Charlotte at the Eagles Club in Tawas the summer of 1967 and got engaged in 1968. They were married at Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Walled Lake on June 14th, 1969 and for 55 years they were known as Mar and Char. He proudly worked at Flint Osteopathic Hospital until 1997 when he went to Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc. His retirement party in 2010 was a testament to Marvin and the relationships he created and maintained throughout his professional life. He truly never met a stranger and found joy and solace in fellowship. He was an active member of Central Church of the Nazarene in Flint, where he ushered and attended with his family 3 times per week. Being a proud member of the Grand Blanc and Flint Communities, Marvin attended as many events as he could. He participated in The Crim and Back to the Bricks, just to name a couple. He loved going to the Flint Firebird Hockey games with Janelle and they were true shopping buddies. Marvin attended musical concerts, recitals, tournaments, games, parades, shows, plays, performances, and graduations of his kids, grandkids, nephews and nieces when he could and continued to find joy in watching his youngest grandkids play basketball, lacrosse, color with him, and be goofy. Marvin enjoyed nature, animals, bicycling, lighthouses, snowmobiling, making people laugh, servicing and including others, and belonging to his communities. Above all, he loved and was proudest of his marriage, his family, and his relationship with The Lord.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Charlotte McCrory McKenzie.
