Marlene Camille Zelenka-Freas

ZELENKA-FREAS, Marlene Camille - age 92 of Fenton, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Fenton United Methodist Church, 119 S. Leroy Street, Fenton. Pastor Jeff Jaggers officiating. Genesee County Nurses Honor Guard Ceremony will also be held. Visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of her service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. In remembrance of Marlene’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Fenton United Methodist Church.

Marlene was born May 8, 1932 in Flint, the daughter of Marlow Mathew and Eva Elizabeth (Smith) Schuler. She was a 1950 graduate of Flushing High School and then attended Hurley School of Nursing. Marlene was married to Robert Frank Zelenka on April 17, 1953 in Flushing and he preceded her in death on February 28, 1989. She was a graduate of University of Detroit, earning her Bachelor of Nursing Degree in 1979 and her Masters of Science in Nursing Degree in 1982. Marlene was married to William S. Freas on September 21, 2002 in Fenton and he preceded her in death September 28, 2022. She was a member of Fenton United Methodist Church since 1960. She volunteered for Medical Missions International and spent many fall months in Jamaica providing aid to those in need. Marlene was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving family members include: her daughter, Kim (Les) Beare; grandchildren, Kristen (Craig Noble) Byers, Kathryn (Brandon) Myers, Camille (Gabe Schwartz) Byers, Rebecca Freas, Melissa (Anthony) Salvato, Adam Beare, Megan (Patrick Carruthers) Beare; great grandson, Bentley Freas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Marlow, and sister Judith; son, Michael Drew Zelenka; and stepson, David Freas. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
