STEVENS, Mark Douglas - age 78, of Lapeer, MI, and Largo, FL, formerly of Fenton, died September 4, 2021. A memorial service will be held 11 AM Friday, September 10, 2021, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, MI, 48430. Visitation will be held 2- 4 PM and 6-8 PM Thursday at the Fenton funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fenton Adopt-A-Pet or the Genesee County Humane Society. Mark was born October 16, 1942, in Flint, the son of Hubert and Evelyn (Chevalier) Stevens. He graduated from Flint Central High School where he participated in several sports. Mark was a veteran of the U.S. Navy - a radioman with special clearance on the minesweeper USS Adroit out of Charleston, SC. His ship took part in numerous mine sweeping expeditions and also naval operations during the Cuban Missile Crisis off of Cuba. Mark then experienced a successful career in the automotive sales business. At Tom Gleason Volkswagon, he led in sales and was awarded the top VW salesman in the country. Later, for many years, he served as the General Manager for Pasty Lou Williamson Chevrolet in Flint. During his tenure, it was the nation’s top-selling Buick dealership. Mark was a proud father and grandfather. Surviving are daughter, Wendy (Keith) Byard of Lapeer, a professor at Mott College; son, Matt (Tami) Stevens of Fenton, General Manager of Vic Canever Chevrolet in Fenton; five grandchildren: Haley Byard, Kacie Byard (fiancé, Harrison Watt), Kellee Byard, Brooke Stevens (fiancé, Brett Wakefield) and Brendan Stevens; sister, Marilyn (Fred) Meier; many nieces and nephews; long-time partner Joanne Collis; first wife Cheryl Stevens and mother of his children, and many friends in Lapeer, Fenton, Largo, FL, and the Flint area. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Brigid Stevens. Mark loved animals, most especially his dogs Boomar and Muffin. He was an avid Detroit sports fan who enjoyed boxing and playing golf with his good friends. He was known as a humble, kind, compassionate, generous, and respectful man of integrity. He also shared a witty sense of humor (and was a sometimes prankster) with a twinkle in his eye and always a smile on his face. Anyone in his presence was made better for it because Mark brought people joy with his happy, caring, and outgoing personality. He was a special man who was truly loved by all.
