SMITH, Mark Douglas, “Bass” age 65 of Linden passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 15th, 2024, at his home after a short battle with cancer. Mark was born in Flint, Michigan on July 27th, 1958. He was a 1976 graduate of Linden High School where he excelled playing football as defensive tackle. After high school, Mark worked for General Motors and later found happiness in self-employment as a contractor. He was a hardworking man and did so up until the very end. Known for his generosity and unwavering friendship you could always count on him. Often you would hear his unparalleled laugh before you even saw him. Mark had a great memory and if he had a table to sit at and a cup of coffee, he would tell stories and captivate the room. He was an avid coin-collector, enjoyed going to the casino, fishing, going up-north with his wife, Dawn, and spending time with friends and family. He was a friend to all and will be greatly missed.

Mark is survived by his wife, Dawn McGinnis and 6 children, Jesse McGinnis, Laura Jo Bartrum (William) , Michelle McGinnis, Jordan Smith and twin daughters Jade Weisenberger (Kyle) and Marque Wenzlicm (Bruce) ; grandchildren Emery, Arwen, Francesca, Boomer, Brody, Ava, Hunter and Logan; sisters Lisa and Suzanne and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Douglas and Helen (Byrd) Smith.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 21st, 2024, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St, Linden (The service will be live streamed and can be viewed via the link on Mark's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Pastor Robert Easlick officiating. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Linden at a later date. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Monday from 4-8 PM and Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
