Marion Smith

August 15, 1932 — February 6, 2018

Smith , Marion Edith - Age 85, formerly of Byron, died February 6, 2018. An Open House to celebrate Marion will begin at 2 PM Sunday February 25 at the home of Wendy and Pat Maccombs in Swartz Creek. (contact Sharp Funeral Homes for more information). Marion was born August 15, 1932 in Hudson, Massachusetts the daughter of Robert and Pearl (Locke) Rafuse. She married Edward "Ted" Smith on August 16, 1952 in Flint; he preceded her in death March 21, 2001. Marion earned her Bachelors and Masters in Education. She taught at Byron Elementary until retirement in 1993. Her favorite part of teaching was June, July and August. Ted and Marion were avid stamp collectors in passports, traveling to such countries as China, Africa, Japan, Italy, and more, with London, England being her favorite. She enjoyed pontoon rides on McKane Lake with no less than a cooler of Gin and Tonics. She loved winning (cheated) at cards. Any party was reason enough to wear her tiara. Marion never met an ice cream cone she didn't like. She and Ted loved the lake in the summer and Mesa AZ in the winter. She passed on her love of travel to each grandchild, taking them on many trips. She and Ted made and enjoyed the company of many friends along the way. Together they raised five children; Susan Smith, David Smith of Connecticut, Wendy (Pat) Maccombs, Nina (Jeff) Lozier, Rebecca Keith, all of Swartz Creek. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Amanda (Jim), Jennifer (Shawn), Carrie (Ken), Katie (John), Jennifer, Jessica (Chris), Tara (Kyle), and Justin; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Carson, Thomas, Ava, Allison, Kaleb, Katie, Elizabeth, Julianna, Jack, Gwen, Lincoln, Henrik; and sister Norma Lindholm of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ted; and daughter Susan. The family extends a special thank you to the caregivers at Courtyard Manor of Swartz Creek , especially Jessica who was brave enough to let Mom play on her phone.
