BRISTOL, Marion QuWray - Age 75, of Flint, died Thursday, April 28, 2011. Marion was born October 10, 1935, at her grandmother's home in Jefferson, Iowa. She was the daughter of John and QuWray Youngquist of Gowrie, Iowa. After graduation from Lanyon High School in Lanyon, Iowa, Marion attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and graduated from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Chemistry. Marion attended Herman Kiefer Hospital for Medical Terminology in Detroit, Michigan. This gave her knowledge to work in the clinical laboratory at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan for 30 years. Marion worked part time at St. Joseph Hospital and West Flint Reference Laboratory until 1994. Marion Youngquist and Delyle Bristol were married on June 22, 1963. They had 3 children: David, Denise and Laura. After retirement, Marion was very involved in ceramics. She also enjoyed using her artistic talents in painting pictures. Delyle did some painting, but he enjoyed woodcarving which they worked on together. Marion also made several porcelain dolls. Gardening was another past time, showing her green thumb. Marion was baptized with her husband Delyle on April 14, 2003. She was confirmed and joined Grace Lutheran Church. She was a faithful member and helped the youth confirmation classes and attended many bible classes. Marion's thoughtfulness and caring spirit constantly drew people to her. She was very giving, faithful, and worked tirelessly to help others, even after she became ill. She especially helped her family. Marion leaves to cherish her memory, son David (Mendy) Bristol, grandson Drew, granddaughters Makenzie and Julia of Prosper, Texas; daughter Denise (John) Matejcek, granddaughter Lisa (Bruce) Bastien, great-grandson Nico, and grandson Zachary; Daughter Laura (Brian) Wykoff-all of Flint, Michigan; sister Ramona Youngquist of Gowrie, Iowa; several cousins and her entire Grace Lutheran Church family. Marion was preceded in death by husband, Delyle Bristol, her parents, John and QuWray Youngquist, aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. S. Kiran, Avalon Hospice, McLaren Regional Medical Center, special friends Terry and Karen Baker, Winston and Virginia Mortiere, Dale Ellis, Janet Doering, Barbara Lambert, Grace Lutheran Church, Pastor and Gretchen Oelhafen and nurses, Julie, Ellen and Amber. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Grace Lutheran Church, 2526 Corunna Rd., Flint. Pastor Daniel Tomczyk will officiate. Burial will follow in Bristol Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Friday at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint. Those desiring may make contributions to the Genesee County Humane Society.
