Marilynn Brainard

December 12, 1926 — February 7, 2017

Marilynn returned to her Creator February 7, 2017 following a long, loving life and brief illness. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family. Born December 12, 1926 to Ralph and Marie Shefferly, Marilynn was the second of seven children. She was married to Norman Brainard for 66 years, and they had eight children; Barbara Brainard, Norman (deceased), Thomas (Patricia), Dennis (deceased), Gregory (Suzanne), Steven (Diane), Patricia Brainard (Scott Tatro), and Marianne Kuch (Todd). She has nine surviving grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by one brother, Ralph Shefferly, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. Marilynn attended school at St. Mary of Redford, Mercy College and Mt. Carmel Hospital in Detroit. She was a selfless, caring person by nature and by profession - a registered nurse. After raising her own family, she devoted her time to geriatric care at a local nursing home, as staff nurse, director of nursing, and later as a volunteer. She then volunteered at St. John the Evangelist in Fenton in the Befriender and Outreach programs, as well as serving funeral luncheons. She loved her gardens, flowers, and birds. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday, February 11, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 6-8 PM Friday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, with a rosary at 4 PM. Visitation will also be held from 10 AM until the time of Mass Saturday at the church. The family wishes to thank Reverence hospice for assisting with her care this past week. In her memory, donations may be made to the Outreach Program at St. John the Evangelist or to Special Olympics.
