Maria (Lucy) Shoup

February 8, 1942 — January 17, 2022

Flint

SHOUP, Maria (Lucy), 79, of Flint, went to be with her Lord on January 17, 2022.

Maria was born February 8, 1942 in Laredo, Texas to her parents, Manuel and Lucia Lara. She came to live in Flint in 1951. She attended Northern High School. Lucy was a devoted and loving wife, to her husband, Richard for 62 years. He preceded her in death on November 6, 2021. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She selflessly gave her support, time and values to her family. It is because of her unconditional love for her family that she leaves many cherished memories.

Lucy and Richard shared many hours of happiness sitting under the grapevine trellis overlooking the many flowers and birdhouses in their garden. Lucy especially loved the visits of the hummingbirds, her favorite bird. She was an enthusiastic fan of the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. Our family gatherings will never be the same without Lucy's awesome homemade desserts. Lucy loved her pets Annie, Angel, Stella and Babette. She retired from the Flint Board of Education after 30 years of service.

Lucy is survived by her children; daughters, Sherri (Curtis) Steele and Sarah Shoup; sons, Steve Shoup, Sidney (Rosaura) Shoup and Stuart Shoup; grandchildren, Ericka Duncan (Ron), Jamie Herfurth (Mark), Corey Holcomb (Julie), Mariam Shoup, Wendy Shoup, Vincent Shoup, Christopher (Dacia Genow), Michelle Shoup, Abbigail Shoup, Noah Ross, and Sullivan Todd; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Juan (Aurora) Lara, Mario (Sue); sisters, Raquel Minerva, Margaret (Bill) Salinas, Maria Elena, and Juana (Tacho) Diaz.

Lucy is being welcomed with open arms by her husband, Richard; father, Manuel; mother, Lucia; brothers, Rulie, Willie, Meme, Ricky, and sister, Dora.

The family would like to express our deepest gratitude and love to her son, Steven, for his devoted and compassionate care of his mother.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date this summer. Arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Grand Blanc. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
