Margo was born April 20, 1953, in Flint, the daughter of Gene and Collette Auten (Weesner). She was a 1971 National Honor Society graduate of Swartz Creek High School. Margo married the love of her life, Andrew Monroe Lang, on September 2, 1972. They were married at the First Congregational Church of Durand and moved to North Carolina until Andrew was honorably discharged from the Army in 1974. Returning home to Linden and then Fenton, Michigan, they started their family having three daughters, Andrea Lang Sims (Greg), Amy Lang Crow (Nate Lucca significant other), and Megan Rashid (Phil). Margo was the proud grandma of Olivia and Peyton Sims, Brayden Crow, Collette, Philip, and Zeke Rashid, and great grandchild Willow Sims. The Sims family includes six more bonus grandchildren, Kristin, Connor, Brooke, Josh, Daniel, and Michael and their extended family. Margo has three siblings, Gene Auten Jr., Jody Espich (Mike), and Tracy Auten (Renee). There were countless nieces and nephews who were important to her as well. She was preceded in death by her father Gene Auten in 2001.
In 1995 Margo and her family moved to Mesa, Arizona where she returned to school at Mesa Community College getting a degree in Child Development with High Distinctions earning her a position as lead instructor of MCC’s Child Development Lab. She became a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, continuing to learn and advocate for all children. In 2001, Margo returned to Fenton, Michigan and became employed with the Michigan Head Start program until she retired. Although Margo was a champion for early childhood development, she was first and foremost a wonderful mother, loving wife and daughter, and beloved grandmother. Her favorite pastimes were art projects with the grandchildren, long walks, and even longer bicycle rides.
Known for sharing love, showing grace and spreading joy, Margo will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
