Maj. Richard P. Roper, retd., USAF - Age 62, of Flushing, died Wednesday April 21, 2021. Funeral services will be held 12PM Monday, April 26, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Pastor Eric Maynard officiating. Private Burial will follow in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Pastor Joseph Swords officiating. All are welcome to attend dinner at Bristol Road Church of Christ, 1315 W. Bristol Rd., Flint following the burial at 2:45 PM. Visitation will be held 11AM until time of service at the funeral home on Monday. Richard was born October 4, 1958 in New Haven CT, the son of Laurence and Laura (Ryan) Raper. He married Jill Jost in Romeo, MI on August 29, 1977. Richard proudly served and retired from the US Air Force with 22 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, was a Cub and Boy Scout leader for a total of 20 years. Richard was an NRA instructor and taught all his children how to shoot. Surviving are: wife of 44 years, Jill Roper of Flushing; children, Serenity (Lucas) Summers of Flushing, Gabriel (Bethany) Roper of IN, Richard (Courtney) Roper of TX, Daniel Roper of South Korea, Michael (Kristin) Roper of Flushing; grandchildren, Matthew, Hannah, Emily, Sarah, Noah, and miss Lilly Summers, Cora, Rueben, Oren, Laurel, Rowan, Gretchen, and Soren Roper. He is also survived by his parents, Laurence and Laura Raper; siblings, Susan (Dennis) Hall of Lapeer, Bill (Martha) Raper of OH, Leslie (Steve) Smith of Plymouth; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Celeste Roper on September 9, 1980 and son, David Roper on July 5, 1994. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
