Mabel Wheat

WHEAT, Mabel Joyce - Age 90, of Fenton, passed away on August 6, 2021. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 3 PM, Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, Michigan 48430. Service will be live streamed on Mabel's obituary page at www.sharpfuenralhomes.com. Memorial gathering will take place from 2 PM until the time of service Sunday. Those desiring may make contributions to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or the Fenton Historical Society.

Mabel was born on June 22, 1931 in Newark, NJ the daughter of Gim Yee and Ngon Ho (Wong) Eng. She graduated from Eastside High School in New Jersey and attended Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She went on to obtain her Masters degree in Library Sciences from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She married James Davidson Wheat on February 16, 1957 in Ann Arbor. He preceded her in death on January 23, 1999.

Mabel was a Branch Librarian for the Genesee District Library for 25 years, retiring in 1999. She was a member of the Flint Institute of Arts; Sloan Museum; Bower Theater; Longway Planetarium; Quilt Guild; Crazy Quilt Guide, Fenton Historical Society and the Whaley Home.

Mabel is survived by her sons, James Davidson (Ruth) Jr., Michael Eng (Anita) and Andrew David Wheat; grandchildren, James, Jennifer, Michael, David, Meagan and Lauren; brothers, James Charles (Helen) Eng and Frank G. Eng; several nieces and nephews.
