CARSTEN, Lyle E.  Age 97, of Swartz Creek, died Monday, July 11, 2005 at Durand Convalescent Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Friday, July 15, 2005 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Swartz Creek with Rev. Fr. Amos Wischmeyer officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1-4 and 5:30-9 PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek where a rosary will be prayed at 6 PM Thursday evening. Mr. Carsten was born June 1, 1908 in Grawn, MI, the son of Otis and Blanche (Comstock) Carsten. He married Emma K. Root on October 31, 1929 in Flint and she preceded him in death on January 16, 2002. Mr. Carsten retired from Marion Hall as a building supervisor and engineer. He had previously been employed as a construction supervisor, farmer, foreman at General Motors and a carpenter. He had resided in Swartz Creek since 1959. Mr. Carsten was a member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with family, woodworking, golfing, and fishing. Surviving are: 12 children, Fred and wife, Linda of Durand, Kenneth and wife, Jean of Corunna, Joyce and husband, William Kelly of Melvindale, MI, Charles and wife, Virginia of Mio, Dale and wife, Janet of Byron, Sr. Emma Carsten of NY, Paul and wife, Judy of Marion, MI, Mary and husband, Raymond Martin of Vernon, Louis and wife, Linda of Sanford, Michael and wife, Linda of Mio, Rita and husband, Michael Krupp of Bancroft, James and wife, Leslie of Flint; daughter-in-law, Karen Carsten of Durand; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Otis; three sisters, Mabel, Gladys and Blanche; many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by: his parents; two sons, Joseph and Vince; daughter, Ellen Root; three brothers; two sisters. Friends may view and post a tribute at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
