CRAWFORD, Louise Marguerite - age 94, of Flint, died Thursday, August 17, 2006 at Willowbrook Manor. Services will be held 3:30PM Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint (Just south of Hill Rd.) Dr. Douglas Reberg officiating. Family will receive friends from 2PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Planned Parenthood, or a charity of one's choice. Louise was born May 9, 1912 in Flint, the daughter of Jay James and Hattie Idella 'Ida' (Morey) Green. She was a 1932 graduate of Flint Northern High School. Louise married Clare Eugene Crawford on September 23, 1939 in Holly and he preceded her in death on January 16, 1968. She was employed by United Auto Workers for 5 years and a member of the Women's Emergency Brigade which was instrumental in the success of the Great Flint Sit-Down Strike of 1936-37 and is one the original 'Sit-Downers'. Louise organized the opening of the office for Buick Local 599 in 1938. She also worked at Montgomery Wards for 8 years, was a Planned Parenthood Volunteer and a Senior-Aid employee for the Blind for several years, retiring at the age of 79. Surviving are her 2 children, Junette Crawford of Flint, James Crawford of Florida; 6 grandchildren, Annette, Â James, Michael, Ian, Claire, Sean; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine E. Blankinship of Flint; niece, Bonnie (Douglas) Reberg of Ontario; nephew, Thomas (Andrea) Blankinship of Swartz Creek; 1 great-niece and 1 great-nephew.
