GILLIS, Lola Maxine - Age 101, of Flushing, went home to her reward, Monday, October 21, 2019. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, October 25, 2019 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Mr. Paul Holland Minister of the Swartz Creek Church of Christ officiating. Burial in Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Mrs. Gillis was born April 1, 1918 in Sale Creek, TN, she was the sixth child of seven children born to John and Sabrina (May) Smith. She had resided in Flushing since 1954, coming from Tennessee. She married Allie M. Gillis on May 22, 1937 in Chattanooga, TN. She was a homemaker and mother never having to work outside the home, but definitely inside. Allie and Lola were among the first members of the Swartz Creek Church of Christ and where Allie served as an Elder.
Surviving are: son, Larry and wife Sharon Gillis of Clarkston, WA, daughter, Rainelle Bryan of Flint, and Scott and wife Marilyn Gillis of Flushing; 10 grandchildren 13 great grandchildren; 2 nieces, Martha Antonio of Corpus Christi, TX and Shirley Clements of San Antonio, TX; and many friends.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Allie and her son, David A. "Tony" Gillis. The family wishes to thank the nurses of Heartland Hospice and a special thanks to her caregivers, Jordan, Maddie, Coco, and Sam. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
