Linda Farrell

LINDA JOLENE (CARROTHERS) FARRELL - Lover of life, Supporter of many, Linda Farrell was a lover of life and a supporter of many. She loved her family, and loved sharing fun, zany, free-spirited times with all. Linda would welcome conversations with anyone, and had a wonderful ability to bring smiles and laughs to the faces of those around her. Linda lived in Durand, Ferndale, and Hazel Park, Michigan as well as spending time in Anderson, IN as a child. Linda went peacefully at Hurley Medical Center, on August 5, 2018, after four years of end-stage renal disease. She is survived by her fiancé, Johnny Hill, and her four children: Tamara Lowe (David), Scott Farrell (Nicki), Kate Chivers (Chris, Laurah), and, Megan Genova (Anthony). Her stepdaughters are Charrone and Charmaine Hill. Linda's grandchildren are Jennifer, Joseph, and Jonathan Shy and Anthony Lowe; Katarina and Alexander Chivers; and Luke Douglas Genova, born 7/21/18. She has four remaining siblings: Sandra Hall (Hank), Carolyn Hight (Robert), Jeffrey Carrothers (Amy DiStefano), and sister-in-law, Linda Carrothers. Her brother James, and grandson Alexander Lowe pre-deceased her. Linda was born on August 23, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, to Lanson and Dorothy Carrothers. She was the oldest of five children and excelled in her studies. She enjoyed creative writing and political activism for various causes. She accepted Jesus as her savior at an early age. Linda graduated from Lamphere High School in 1967 and completed an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts from Oakland Community College. She also studied American Sign Language at Madonna University. For over 20 years, she worked faithfully for H&R Block as a Master Tax Adviser, Enrolled Agent at the Hazel Park office. Linda married Douglas Farrell on September 23, 1967 in Ferndale, Michigan, who predeceased her in 2003. They enjoyed two sets of children - 12 years apart - and cared for many foster babies between the sets. As a family they loved to camp all across the US and Canada. They were members of the Never-Ever Homes and Puddle Jumpers in the National Campers and Hikers Association where their family would enjoy camping nearly every month throughout the year. Linda enjoyed political activism, posting trivia questions, reading, swimming, collecting penguins, teaching tax classes, traveling and instructing her grandkids on any topic. She also challenged your views of how you thought things should be, and pressed you to do your best. Linda loved it when you made her proud. As her children married, she loved to spend time enjoying her grandchildren. They loved their Grammy and she will be truly missed. Linda also appreciated spending time with camping friends. She and Johnny would "summer" in their camper in Durand, coming home to Ferndale when it became too cold to camp and in time for the start of tax preparation season. She was very involved in the activities of Holiday Shores Campground and enjoyed creating weekly scavenger hunts, managing the unofficial social media page she created and creating imaginative events for the campers and their families.
