THOMAS, Lilly B. (Balabanian)  Dearly loved mother and grandmother, age 86, passed peacefully from this life to the next, December 22, 2004 at her residence. Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Monday, December 27, 2004 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Fr. Dennis Howard officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be from 3-9 PM Sunday at the funeral home where a prayer service will be held 7 PM Sunday evening. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to St. Johns Armenian Apostolic Church of Southfield, MI, Genesee County Catholic Social Services, or the North End Soup Kitchen, all of which Lilly supported. The daughter of Garabed Charles and Azniv Balabanian, Lilly was born December 11, 1918 in Chelsea, Massachusetts. After graduating form Capac High School (Valedictorian, Class of 1937), she trained at Hurley Hospital School of Nursing (Class of 1941). She had resided in Flint, Swartz Creek (and recently Flushing) since 1937. After working as a surgical nurse and then an obstetrical nurse at Hurley Hospital, she worked for General Motors. She retired in 1975 from Fisher Body Plant #1 with 29 years of service. She was a lifetime member of the Hurley Hospital School of Nursing Alumni, also the Industrial Nurses Association and the Industrial Business Girls of Flint. She was united in the sacrament of marriage to Kenneth A. Thomas, October 4, 1952. She was a loving wife and mother with a deep commitment to family. She also devoted many hours of service to others as a Registered Nurse. Surviving are: daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and George A. Marzonie, Jr. of Flushing; six beloved grandchildren, Gabriel (currently residing in Arlington, VA), Anita, Natalie, Veronica, Nathan and George Micah, all of Flushing; sister-in-law, Mary Balabanian; several special nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Kenneth; three brothers, Dr. Henry G. Balabanian, George Balabanian, Nazareth (Ned) Balabanian; three sisters, Henrietta Gullian, Rose Albert, and Mary Roberts. The family would like to thank the staff at McLaren, Heartland Hospice and a very special thank you to the staff and friends at Hyde Park Memory Impaired Home of Flushing for their tender and dedicated service.
