MARKLEY, Lilah Beth - Age 101, died Saturday, November 22, 2008 at her residence. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday at United Methodist Church of Gaines, 117 Clinton St, Gaines, with Pastor John Bailey officiating. Burial immediately following at Oakwood Cemetery, Gaines. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Home, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St, Linden Tuesday from 1-4 and 6-8 PM and at church from 9:00 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the United Methodist Church of Gaines. Mrs. Markley was born December 9, 1906 in Albany, WI, the daughter of Manley and Addie (Sisson) Moore. She was a 1924 gradaute and valedictorian of Albany High School and a graduate with high honor of Lawrence College in Appleton, WI. She married Lyle W. Markley June 20, 1931 in Gaines and he preceded her in death April 15, 2001. She retired from Gaines Elementary School in 1972 after 29 1/2 years of service and also had taught at Boyd School. Mrs. Markley had resided in Gaines since 1928 and had wintered in Punta Gorda, FL after retirement. She was a member of United Methodist Church of Gaines were she taught Sunday School for many years, Byron OES Hulda Chapter #212, Gaines Community Club and Genesee County Farm Bureau. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Lilah caregivers, Sandra Adams, Helga Phillips, Sally Felts, Laura Siders, Alice Springsteen, Joyce Beacham, Jodi Collins, Mary Semke, Nancy Boitos, Angie Podsiadlik, Lori Heller, Tina Schaefer, Beth Oginsky and Nicki Oginsky. Surviving are: son, Charles Edwin and wife Carole Markley of Byron; daughter, Harriet Markley-Weeks of Gaines; 2 grandchildren, Cindy and husband Mike Majick of Grand Rapids and Randy and wife Denise Markley of Byron; 4 great grandchildren, Troy and Kyle Markley and Luke and Katy Majick; niece, Mary Tiedeman; nephew, Paul Tiedeman; and many other nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Harry Weeks; brother, Lewie Moore; 2 sisters, Beulah Wendell and Harriet Tiedeman.
