TWIGG, Lewis Harold, Jr., MD - age 84, of Flint, passed away November 7, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.  Funeral services will be held 12 PM Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 9020 S. Saginaw St, Grand Blanc, MI 48439 with Rev. Jerry Lasley officiating. Interment will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI 48473. Visitation will also be held 11 AM - 12 PM Wednesday at the church.

Dr. Twigg, affectionately known as “Tippy” to friends and family, was born October 5, 1937 in Muskogee, OK to Lewis Harold and Ann Reba (Kelly) Twigg, Sr. A gifted academic, he earned a Bachelor of Science from Morehouse College in 1958 and Masters of Science from Atlanta University in 1960. He went on to earn his Medical Degree from Meharry Medical College in 1967. He lived a full life of faith in God and was dedicated to his family and fellow man. Lewis married the love of his life, Evelyn Bond, on February 23, 1962 in Memphis, TN.

Dr. Twigg was a battalion surgeon in the U.S. Ninth Infantry Division during the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army where he was awarded a Bronze Star for his “meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces”. He co-authored “Cutaneous Streptococcal Infections in Vietnam” which was published in the Archives of Dermatology in September 1971. He was an obstetrician-gynecologist at Hurley Hospital in Flint. He was beloved by his patients for his care and jovial bedside manner and was honored with many awards throughout the course of his career. A life long and devoted Episcopalian, he was a member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Lewis loved spending time on the golf course as well as enjoying time up north with family and friends at his cottage on Paradise Lake.

Surviving are: wife, Evelyn of Flint; daughter, Karen Twigg May of Chicago; son, Lewis H. Twigg III of Flint; grandchildren, Veronica Twigg Karaduman and husband, Serhan, Ayana Grady, Nolen Twigg, Ayden Twigg, Lauren Evelyn May, and Lindsay Ann May; great grandchildren, Ryan Karaduman, Devin Gibson, and Ava Vaughn; sister, Clara Ann and husband, Dr. George Mims; nieces, Cheryl Ann Grier and Carla Mims; nephews, Michael Bugg, Kevin Bond, Brent Bond, and Nelson K. Bond. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Reba Twigg in 1984 and his father, Lewis Harold Twigg, Sr. in 1985. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
