Lester Leroy Holmes Jr.

Holmes Jr., Lester Leroy – Age 89 of Delray Beach, FL, formerly of Swartz Creek, MI, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.  A memorial service will take place at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, MI. Visitation will take place from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, at which time the memorial service will begin. There will be a reception following the service.  Additionally, a graveside service will take place at 12:30 PM, Monday March 4, 2024 at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lane 1, where he will be laid to rest, along with his beloved wife, Betty. A reception will follow at 8563 Woodgrove Harbor Lane, Boynton Beach, FL 33473.

Lester was born on June 3, 1934 in Owosso, MI, the son of Lester Leroy Holmes Sr and Anna (Sabo) Holmes.  Lester worked at Buick in Flint prior to serving his country as Marine.  Following his service, he rejoined the General Motors family at the GMSPO Plant, Swartz Creek, for 35 years.  Lester also served as Trustee for UAW Local 659. In his free time, Lester enjoyed spending time with his family, building and fixing things, the casino and in his later year, puzzles.

Lester is survived by his son, Jeffrey (Larry Caste) Holmes; daughter, Tiffany Holmes and her children (grandchildren), Anna, David and Emma Knight; sisters, Ella Cooper, Lola DeAndrea and Mary Schmidt; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lester was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Betty Holmes; parents, Lester and Anna Holmes; 2 brothers, Gale Holmes and Jack Holmes.
