CORNELIUS, LeRoy Jay- Age 81, of Swartz Creek, died Thursday, May 17, 2007 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Â Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, May 21, 2007 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Â Fr. Gene Geromel officiating. Â Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Â Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5-9 PM Saturday, 1-9 PM Sunday and 1:00 PM until time of service. Â LeRoy was born October 28, 1925 in Bay City, the son of Leon and Mildred (Davy) Cornelius. Â He married Pearl Barette June 17, 1950 in Flint and she preceded him in death January 7, 1987. Â He had resided in Swartz Creek since 1960 coming from Flint. Â He retired from AC Spark Plug in 1985 after 34 1/2 years service as a extrusion and press operator. Â He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp Infantry during WWII. Â He was a member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Â He was a avid gardener, banjo player and was a member of the Motor City Banjo Club. Â He was also a member of U.A.W. Local 651 and Swartz Creek American Legion #294. Â Surviving are: 3 daughters, Theresa Cornelius and husband Marty Cross of Knoxville, TN, Doris Lahar of Mt. Morris, Karen Metcalfe of Flint; 2 sons, Mearle Cornelius and wife Christine of Durand and Gary Cornelius and wife Ann of Florida; 24 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Thelma Griebe of Linwood and Lillian LaLonde of Ovid Elsie; many nieces and nephews.
