Leo Torpey Jr.

TORPEY, Leo Jr. -- Age 84 of Swartz Creek, died December 9, 2014 peacefully at his home surrounded by loving family. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Friday December 12 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Fr. Eugene Geromel officiating. Visitation will be held 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Thursday where a Order of Eastern Star service will held at 7PM and Masonic service will immediately follow. Visitation will also be 12 PM until time of service on Friday. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to the Alzheimer's Association or McLaren Hospice. Leo was born May 5, 1930 in Fremont Township, Isabella County the son of Leo and Reita (Harrison) Torpey Sr. He married Lucille Gilbert February 12, 1955. Starting at the age of 17, Leo was a pipeliner for many years and finished his career at GM Truck and Bus, retiring in 1995. Life member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Wabon Lodge #305 and Plural member of Swartz Creek Lodge #458. Life member of Bay City Consistory, Life Member of Elf Khurafeh Shrine, Life Member of the Order of Eastern Star, Linden Chapter #175. Member of Curtis Wolverton VFW in Fenton. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. Surviving are: wife, Lucille; daughters, Janice (Barry) Miller, Brenda (Donald) King; Son, Charles (Dawn) Torpey; brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Betty Gilbert; grandchildren, Amy Brudnyak, Lisa LeClair, Renee (Jason) St. John, Aaron Torpey (Fiance' Shelby), Elliott (Kendra) Torpey, Kacey Torpey and their mother Gayle Torpey, Zachary White, Austin (Mariah) Russell, Heidi (Dale) Binder, Jennifer (Tony) Norton; great-grandchildren, Hanna, Paige, Gisella, Brandon, Xavier, Gavin, Brett, Emma, Caiden, Dawson, Cole, Shannon, Samuel. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Onalee and Shelby; brother, Dickie; son in law, Brian Edson. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. E. Gomez, Dr. S.
