Leo Sweeney

SWEENEY, Leo George "Mick" -- Age 82, of Swartz Creek died November 19, 2015. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday November 25 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held 1-4 and 6-9 PM Tuesday with a American Legion Memorial service at 7PM. Leo was born February 22, 1933 in Swartz Creek the son of Basil and Leah (Goss) Sweeney. Mick proudly served in the Navy during war time in Korea on the USS Los Angeles. After returning from duty he married Barbara Burgess in 1958. Mick worked for the Railroad and later retired as a Teamster Truck Driver. He was an avid golfer carding three hole in ones in his lifetime, 2 just ten days apart. He was a life member of the American Legion and the Swartz Creek VFW. He is survived by: 3 sons, Patrick Sweeney of Mt. Morris, Barry Sweeney of Montrose, and Dennis (Shari) Sweeney of Swartz Creek; sister, Doris Welch of Davison; lifelong love and faithful companion of 35 years, Sarah Muchler of Flint; sisters-in-law, Caroline Sweeney, Ethel Sweeney, Olga Sweeney, and Ginny Sweeney. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Red, Don, Lloyd, Patrick, Jack, and Neil.
