Leo was born on November 27, 1935 in Flint, MI, the oldest son of Louis and Nimrie (Mattar) Macksood, who had both immigrated from Lebanon. At the age of 10, he worked daily selling the Detroit Free Press at 6 AM in front of the Buick Factory. During his time in elementary and high school, he joined the Boy Scouts of America where he earned his coveted Eagle Scout Badge and enjoyed summers at Pine Lake Scout Camp. Leo graduated from Flint Northern High School, where he was involved in student government and was President of his Senior Class. He paid his way through college by spending his summers employed at Pine Lake Scout Camp teaching children swimming and boating. He graduated with a teaching degree from Eastern Michigan University. Leo joined the Michigan National Guard, spent six months in Missouri and attended annual summer camps in Grayling. In 1959, Leo met (on a blind date) and married, a young nursing student from St. Joseph School of Nursing, Diane St. Germain. Their 62nd year anniversary will be celebrated on October 31. Leo had several varied jobs after college, the most promising was for our local Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, selling to business groups. He discovered he enjoyed selling and meeting new people every day. Leo always said, "My greatest responsibility is to provide for my family." Within a few years, Leo opened his own office (Macksood Financial Services) which included a management company, insurance and investments. His determination led him to be a member of the Top Producer's Club, where he and Diane traveled all over the world with special friends from the company. He was a member the Flint Board of Education for 16 years and enjoyed visiting the schools and talking with the children. In addition, he was member of The Flint Rotary Club, Toast Masters, YMCA and volunteered for many local organizations. Leo had many interests, his favorite was hunting with his father, fishing and early morning tee time with friends at the Flint Golf Club, where he was a member for 35 years and was proud to say he had Three holes-in-one. Leo was most proud of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed his large family gatherings and will be remembered for his sense of humor, jokes and games he played on them. He was known by many to be a frequent "Good Samaritan", quite often (usually in winter) a car would be stopped with a flat tire and Leo wouldn't hesitate to pull over and change the tire. Leo was the most generous, compassionate, good natured person you could ever meet. He always had a big smile for all and seldom complained. He will be greatly missed in our lives. Leo leaves to remember him: his wife, Diane; son, Joseph Leo; daughter, Janet; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Natalie; three sisters, Mary (Joe) Conroy, Betty (Richard) Ramsdell, and Janice Macksood; brother, Tom (Holly) Macksood; 24 nieces, nephews and their spouses; many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by: his daughter, Julie age 45, infant children, Jane Mary, twins, John and Regina, and Abraham; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline (Bedard) Macksood; parents, Louis and Nimrie Macksood; parents-in-law, Reginald and Doris St. Germain; brother-in-law Michael St. Germain; sisters, Catherine and Donald Roda, Louise and Bob Jubenville; sister-in-law, Linda Macksood.
