CARPENTER, Leo Clarence, age 73, of Byron, died Monday, September 19, 2011 at Durand Senior Care Center, Durand. Services will be held 1:00PM Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Hope Lutheran Church, 7355 W. Silver Lake Road, Linden. Pastor Lew Witto, officiating. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to either the American Diabetes Foundation or Hope Lutheran Church. Leo was born July 11, 1938 in Fostoria, Michigan the son of the late Lee Carpenter and Kathyleen (June)(Carpenter) Kopicko. He married Grace D. Kaphengst February 1, 1958 in Flint. Mr. Carpenter served his country in the National Guard. He started working for General Motors at Fisher I and retired from the Gand Blanc Metal Fabrication Plant with a total of 33 years of service. Surviving are: wife Grace of Byron; children, Chuck (Betty Lake) Carpenter of CA, Charlene (Dennis) Comstock of Byron, Jeff (Vicki Lundy) Carpenter of Byron;step-father Alexander Kopicko; grandchildren, Cindy (Tommy) Smith of Fenton, Cathy (Adam) Brown of Swartz Creek, Aundrayah (Jon)Egleston of WA, Rachel Carpenter of NE, Lindsey Carpenter of NE, Jeffrey Carpenter of Flint and Chelsea (Eric) Cunningham of Flint; great grandchild, Skyler Smith,, siblings, Linda Carpenter, Sherry(Jim)Augustine, Jim (Shirley) Carpenter, Harry (Vicky) Hobby, Laura (Russ) Farris, Luann Dennis, Alicia (Clarence) Boom; brother-in-law; Henry (Madline) Kaphengst; cousin, Robert Carpenter; many aunts, uncles, neices and nephews.
