DIMMIG, Lawrence Gene "Larry" - Age 78, of East Tawas. passed away October 25, 2021
Larry was born September 6, 1943 in Streator, IL, the son of Lawrence A. and Doris Jean (Hozie) Dimmig. He married Bethany S. Fredericks in Flint, July 8, 1978. Larry graduated with an MBA from the University of Wisconsin. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy on an aircraft carrier and was present at the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his career in the Navy, he started his career in retail management with Woolco, before joining Walmart, in the same capacity, for many years. After retiring from Walmart, Larry owned and operated his own Horse Boarding Stable and Farmin Freeland, Michigan. That was one of the best times of his life. He had quite a collection of Ford and John Deere tractors, all pre-1950 and completely restored! He used them for hayrides at the annual Halloween party at the Stable, Circle D Ranch, that his wife and her best friend, Jeannie, lovingly called the "Circus D". He had regular horse shows at the Ranch and enjoyed helping the young horse owners with their showmanship. He always had stories about each boarded horse for the owners when they came. They knew that while their horses were in Larry's care, they were getting the best care possible. Many of his boarders had horses there for the whole 20 years! He complained about watching Gone with the Wind with Beth when it was on, but never said to turn the channel. Likewise, Beth watched football all season, pro and college! Larry was a huge John Wayne fan and watched westerns constantly, also pre-1950! After successfully running the Circle D Ranch for 20 years, Larry gathered his family and they all settled in East Tawas. Larry spent the last 4 years tooling around on his hobby farm, playing with the horses or tractors, feeding "his" birds, hanging out near the water swimming or visiting with the employees at Tawas Do It Best Hardware. He settled in quickly and loved that East Tawas was his home. He made lots of friends. Anyone that met him knew that they had a new friend they could count on. He was a devoted family man, a loving husband and very proud father and grandfather. He loved God, America and family. He served them all admirably. He will be missed by all.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Bethany; children, Marc (Deborah) Dimmig, and Meghann (Joseph) Trancoso; grand-children, Dylan, Eli, Brendan, Ashley, Melonie, Jennifer, Lawren, and Isabel; 10 great grand children; siblings, Craig (Pam) Dimmig, Randy (Teena) Dimmig; mother-in-law, Margaret Fredericks; sister-in-law, Jane (Nicholas) Hamp; brother-in -law, Joseph (Patrice) Fredericks II;his beloved and constant, four-footed companions, Katie, Brando, Bailey, Blue and Max and many much loved cousins in law; and nieces and nephews.
