Lawrence E. Montpas

MONTPAS, Lawrence E. - Age 72, of Swartz Creek, died Saturday, July 29, 2006 at his residence. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday, August 1, 1006 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Fr. Amos Wischmeyer celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-9 PM Sunday and Monday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. A rosary will be prayed 6 PM Monday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Lawrence was born September 2, 1933 in Flint, the son of Hector and Mary (Nimcheski) Montpas. He was a 1951 graduate of Sacred Heart and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. Mr. Montpas was married to Joan Sue Nielson on November 22, 1958 in Flint; she preceded him in death on October 4, 1992. Mr. Montpas retired from General Motors in 1991 after 33 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, UAW Local 581 & 599. Surviving are: daughters, Maureen and husband David Smithingell, Traci and husband Brian Prescott; son-in-law, Rick Montini; grandchildren, Marisa, Salina, Joey, Rayann and Reese; brothers, Daniel and wife Mary Lou, Michael and wife Patricia; sister, Elaine and husband Gerald Bendis; sisters-in-law, Shirley and Delores Montpas; cousin, Mary Jo McFarland; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ann Marie Montini on January 31, 2000 and brothers, Earl and Denis.
