RHODES, Lavern Clayton - Age 91, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Kith Haven. Funeral service will be held 11AM Friday, May 29, 2009 at Hope United Methodist Church, 4467 Beecher Rd., Rev. John Clair Ferris officiating. Interment in Davison Cemetery, Davison. Visitaiton will be held 2-4 and 6-9PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope United Methodist Church. Mr. Rhodes was born September 10, 1917 in Flint, MI, the son of Harley C. and Louella M. (Finch) Rhodes and was a 1935 graduate of Flint Central, where he had been a member of the school band. He married Betty Louise Stewart on August 23, 1958 in Flint, MI. Mr. Rhodes had lived in the Flint area his whole life, spending summers at Houghton Lake. Lavern was employed by Buick as a Sergeant in Plant Protection, retiring in 1974. Mr. Rhodes was an avid collector of model trains, displaying his collection at home. He had been a member of Fellowship Masonic Lodge #490 F&AM, Hope United Methodist Church, Buick Salaried Retirees Club and the Retired Men's Fellowship of Greater Flint. He had also been active in the Post Office Band, Chevy Drum and Bugle Corps, Garland St. Symphony and the Flint Concert Band. Surviving are: wife, Betty; son, Randall(Joanne) Stewart Perry of London, England; and several cousins.
