REED, Lavern D. "Vern" -- Age 92, of Fenton, died November 12, 2011 at his residence. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Wednesday, November 16 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery, Fenton, Fenton VFW Post 3243 Honor Guard will provide honors. Visitation will be 7-9 PM Monday, 2-5 and 7-9 PM Tuesday, with a 7 PM Masonic Memorial service Tuesday evening. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Heart Association. Mr. Reed was born October 21, 1919 in Fenton the son of Norman G. and Maybelle V. (Westfall) Reed. He was a lifelong resident of Fenton. Mr. Reed was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII and had served as a guard at the Nuremburg Trials. He married Esther T. Ray on November 29, 1947 in Fenton. He was a member of the Fenton Lodge # 109 F & A.M., Bay City Scottish Rite, El Khurafeh Shrine, Mended Hearts, and was former officer of the Michigan Federal Credit Union. (now Tri-Point) Surviving are: wife of nearly 64 years Esther; children, Robert and wife Penny Barclay of Fenton, Suzanne C. and husband Jacob D. Elenbaas of Florida, Joanne V. and husband Ronald R. Jaeger of Flint; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; siblings, Norman and wife Hope Reed of Caseville, Jeanette and husband James Madden of Florida, Donald and wife Carol Reed of Swartz Creek; sisters-in-law, Elgin Reed of Durand, Evelyn Reed of Jonesville; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and two sisters. Tributes may be shared on the obituaries page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
