GATZ, Laurence J. "Larry" - Age 74, of Flint, formerly of Gladwin, passed away March 30, 2017 at Genesee Care Center. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, April 4 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint. Pastor Dave Chittenden and Pastor Glen Tatterson officiating. Visitation will be held 1-8 PM Sunday and 12-8 PM Monday. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Great Lakes Baptist Temple. Larry was born March 12, 1943 in Detroit, the son of the late Rudolph Gatz and Eunice Wright. He married his true love, Jean Eldred on March 30, 1963 in Flint. He worked for General Motors for many years as a skilled trades pipefitter, retiring from the Cadillac plant in 1990. Larry enjoyed golfing and played on many leagues over the years. Hunting with his children and grandchildren was always a special time for him. In recent years you could find him enjoying his home in Gladwin, riding his John Deere tractor on the property or tinkering with projects in the barn. Larry was a member of Great Lakes Baptist Temple.Larry will be lovingly missed by his wife, Jean; sons, John (Kim) and James (Marla); daughter, Sandy (Grant II); grandchildren, Jeremy, Alex (Taunee), Andrew, Grant III, Elizabeth, Victoria, Sarah; great-grandchildren, Mya, Hudson, Weston and Lyla; siblings, Greg Sweatland and Kim Caldwell; special niece and nephew, Krissy and Rick Gatz, as well as many other nieces and nephews.Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Richard and sister-in-law, Gail Gatz.Tributes may be posted on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
