Laura Smith

SMITH, Laura Ann - age 88, of Fenton, died December 19, 2019. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Friday, December 27, 2019 at Fenton United Methodist Church, 119 S. Leroy St., Fenton with Rev. Michelle Forsyth officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4 - 7 PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org). Laura was born December 31, 1930 in Detroit, the daughter of Edward King and Dorothy Ann (Dykstra) McCutcheon. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wayne State University. Laura married D. James Smith on August 5, 1955 in Detroit. She was a vocational nursing teacher at Fenton, Lake Fenton, Linden and Holly Schools in the late 1970’s and early 80’s, and the head nurse at Fenton Extended Care for many years. Laura was a member of the Fenton Bay View Club and the 20th Century Club. She was very adventurous and loved to travel. Surviving are: husband, Jim Smith; two daughters, Carrie (Smith) Grafft, Patty (Smith) and husband, Jim Peabody; six grandchildren, Lauren (Brandon) Peabody, Ryan (Natalie) Grafft, Grace Peabody, Kate Peabody, Claire Peabody, and Tessa Peabody; four great-grandchildren, Amelia Peabody, Cullen Peabody, James Peabody, and Evelyn Grafft.
