Larry Smithson

Smithson, Larry Edward age 73 of Grand Blanc, MI passed away, with his family by his side, on September 16, 2021.  Larry was born in Northville, MI on March 31, 1949, to Virginia Osterhout and the late Hubert Smithson.  Larry graduated from Plymouth High School in 1967 and went on to receive a BS from Eastern Michigan University and then became a CPA and worked for Guardian Industries for over 40 years. Often called “the class clown” Larry could make anyone laugh.  He was quick witted and had an infectious laugh that got others around him laughing.  Larry put 100% into everything he did whether it was taking care of his family, working or hobbies. Larry was someone you could count on to tell you the truth whether it’s what you wanted to hear or not.  He loved his family unconditionally and was always there to listen and offer advice.  He held a special place in everyone’s heart.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, of 52 years, Mary, daughters Kimberly (Paul) Mendel and Nichole Smithson.  His dearest grandchildren Hunter (Tony) Wilton, Colton Smithson, Jesse and Payton Hart and great grandchildren Charlie, Ashton and Emma Wilton.  He is also survived by his mother Virginia Smithson, sisters Cheryl (Greg) Green, Linda (Joe) Kelly, Brother-in-law Ron Ronk, sister-in-law Debra Ronk and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father Hubert Smithson, mother-in-law Thelma Ronk and father-in-law Cecil Ronk.

A cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life service 1PM Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Calvary Lutheran Church 6805  Bluegrass Dr., Clarkston, MI 48346.  Per Larry’s wishes his family will be taking his ashes to South Dakota and spreading them in the Black Hills.
