Kenneth "Ken" A. Materia, age 83, of Flint, passed into the loving hands of God on Thursday, October 10, 2024. Visitation will be held at 11am until the time of the Funeral Service at 12pm on Monday, October 14, 2024, at Flint Central Church of the Nazarene, 1261 Bristol Road in Flint. Ken was born on June 25, 1941, in Altoona, Pennsylvania to the late Samuel & Lois Materia. He attended Flint Central High School, class of 1959. Ken furthered his education by learning skilled trades. He was employed with General Motors for over 37 years as a tool and die maker.
Ken married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Sharon "Carol" Miller on January 6, 1961, and they were blessed with three children. Ken owned rental houses as well as a storage business. He loved classic cars and attended many car shows of which he entered his own vehicles and won awards. Ken along with his wife, Carol are members of Flint Central Church of the Nazarene and recently celebrated 22 years of membership there. He volunteered as a Boy Scouts Leader and Mentor with Big Brothers & Big Sisters for over 19 years. Above all Ken cherished his family. His fondest memories where those spent with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years in marriage, Carol; his two daughters Lisa Andrews and Jodi (Will) Wawra; son, Tim (Angel) Materia; five grandchildren, Dan Jr, Andrews, Mike (Sienna) Andrews, Ken Andrews, Tyler Kimball and Justin (Nikki) Kimball; nine great grandchildren, Adalie, Audi, Beckett, Arley, Collin, Garrett, Kolton, Parker and Harlow. He is further survived by his sister, Betsey (Craig) Jueckstock; his brother, Lee Materia and a niece.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by two sisters, Alma and Roberta.
The family would like to thank McLaren Hospice and family and friends who sent food, cards, and support to the family.
