Kay was born January 3, 1967 in Flint, the daughter of Buel and Carol (Atherton) Lemonds. She married Michael F. Mattar at St. Robert Catholic Church in Flushing on May 23, 1997. As a member of St. Robert Catholic Church in Flushing, she provided meals for R.C.I.A. Meetings, (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults).
Kay graduated from Davison High School in 1985 and the University of Michigan-Flint in 1989. During and after her college years she was employed at the Ruth Mott Estate, where she tended to and helped maintain the beauty of the gardens. Later, Kay was employed as a Planner with the Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission. Her most cherished job of all, however, was that of a stay-at-home mother to Millard and Calvin. She was a wonderful wife, a loving mother and always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In her spare time, she delighted in gardening and decorating, and could turn any space, be it indoors or outdoors, into a place of beauty.
Kay is survived by her husband, Michael; sons, Millard Mattar and Calvin Mattar; brother, Craig (Victoria) Lemonds; stepfather Thomas Goggins; nieces and nephews, Nicco Alifano, Sydney Mattar, Carlie Mattar, Dominic Mattar, Luke Mattar, Faith Mattar, Carl Lemonds, and Joe Lemonds; also, one great niece and great nephews.
Kay was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Carl and Jean (Fitzpatrick) Lemonds; her maternal grandparents, Howard and Freda (Parrish) Atherton; her father, Buel Ray Lemonds; her mother, Carol Lynne Goggins; and her nephew, Chance Lemonds. Kay had a special relationship with her grandmother Freda Atherton. They spent a lot of precious time together including many special vacations.
All of Kay’s family and friends, including those still with us and those who have passed, love Kay, and will always love her.
