BURNETT, Katie Elizabeth, age 90, of Swartz Creek, died Friday, December 1, 2006 at Durand Convalescent Center. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Monday December 4, 2006 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Rev. John Grantham and Pastor Alan Sikes officiating. Interment in Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-8PM Saturday and 12-8PM Sunday at the funeral home.  Katie was born June 4, 1916 in Farwell, the daughter of Norman Frank and Lola Lenora (Lock) Hoover. She married Elmer Vernon Burnett on October 19, 1934 in Bowling Green, Ohio and he preceded her in death on October 30, 1991. Katie attended New Testament Community Baptist Church. Katie had worked at A C Spark Plug, and the family businesses, Peoples Cab Company and Flint Towing Service, as well as 13 Public Parking lots all founded by her husband. Katie lived with her daughter, Bernice (B.J.) for 2 1/2 years in Owosso. She loved to help cook, make desserts, sample all the food of course, and whatever small jobs she could do at 87 years of age to help with the operation of B.J.'s Restaurant. She enjoyed crocheting, playing Scrabble, collecting recipes, deer hunting, picking wild berries, and making jams and jellies for her family. Above all, she loved her children and their families the most. Surviving are her 6 children, Tilman 'Smiley' Burnett (Linda) of Lennon, Walter E. Burnett (Joann) of Swartz Creek, Darwon A. Burnett (Yvonne) of Flint, Linda S. Crossno (Jerry) of Flint, Bernice J. Brent of Owosso, John M. Burnett (Carrie) of Houghton Lake; brother, Clyde Hoover (Jessie) of Gaylord; 2 sisters, Lelia McDaniel of Oxford, Edna Dalton (Robert) of Flint; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Allie Wittum; grandson, Walter K. Burnett. Memorial contributions may be made to Make-a-Wish Foundation or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
