Kathleen "Kathy" Talt

Kathleen M. “Kathy” Talt was surrounded by her closest family Sunday, February 19, 2023 at her home in Flushing, MI when she peacefully transitioned into eternal life after a valiant battle with cancer; leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. She was 70 years young, her spirit is carried on by her 3 children, Angeline Simmons, Lisa (Ryan) Hinman, and Matthew Wittbrodt; 3 grandchildren, Dylan Buczek, Antonio Garza and Easton Hinman; 5 surviving siblings, Ann Harris, Peggy Wittbrodt (Tom Smith), Jeanette (Nick) Chiros, Tom (Jan) Talt, and Matt (Ming) Talt; many nieces, nephews, and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life. She made friends everywhere she went, Kathy had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh, spreading the incredible joy she felt for life.

Kathy was born December 9, 1952, in Flint, the daughter of Ireland born Matthew and Susanne (O'Sullivan) Talt. Kathy’s proud Irish heritage and dual citizenship in both the U.S and Ireland can be traced back to Irish royalty. In fact, to this very day there is a Lake (Lough Talt) named after her family where the remains of her ancestors’ castle can still be found. Her childhood years were spent on her family horse farm in Swartz Creek, MI. Her passion for horse riding led her to become an equestrian state champion, one of the youngest to ever earn the title. She was a leader on the 4-H council which sprouted her passion for engaging youth to reach their fullest potential while advancing the field of youth development. Her passion for helping children was evident throughout her professional career; she owned and operated Magic Carpet Child Care, founded G.C.Y.A.A a non-profit athletic program that spanned over a decade and encompassed over 5,000 student athletes, and was actively involved in the Flint Junior Golf Association and Crim Festival of Races where she helped countless children gain self confidence through sports.

Kathy lived a life immersed in style and thus worked as a fashion house manager at The Vogue  in her younger years. For the past 20 years, she has been a top producing real estate agent. Her unwavering commitment to professional excellence is celebrated by her clients and colleagues, whom she is known to go above and beyond to call of duty for. Above all, being a mother and grandmother were her most cherished roles in life. Kathy led a life of service, complete devotion and unending love to her entire family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her, to know her is to love her.

Kathy’s celebration of life will be 10 AM this Friday, February 24, 2023, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 706 Beach St, Flint, MI 48502 with visitation starting at 9 AM. Interment will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The formal Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI 48473.
