KERANEN, Karl Matthew - age 57, of Fenton, died unexpectedly October 11, 2022. A memorial service will be held 3 PM Sunday, October 16, 2022 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, MI 48430. The family will receive friends from 2 PM - 3 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Karl was born November 15, 1964 in Flint, the son of Melvin Roger and Karen Ann (Jamison) Keranen. He attended Michigan State University, where he was involved in several extracurriculars such as Theta Chi Fraternity, lifeguarding and would take summer classes so he could ski instruct in Breckenridge, CO during the winter months. After completing his Bachelor’s at Michigan State University, he completed his master's degree in Public Administration at the University of Michigan. Following his studies, Karl worked in public relations at the American Red Cross for about five years. He worked in family companies as senior manager of Universal Utilities and human resources and accounting with Great Lakes Environmental Services. Following his family's legacy, he also worked at Mt. Holly Ski School as an instructor. Karl was a supportive and loving father to his 3 children, Knox, Milo and Bode. He enjoyed hosting and cooking for his friends and family, skiing, golfing, hiking, traveling, camping with family and the Dick Clique and Guinness beer. Karl had a knack for making people feel seen. He wanted to ensure everyone was having a good time and always highlighted the awesome parts of life. Surviving are: three children, Knox (Abigail) Keranen, Milo Keranen, and Bode Keranen; mother, Karen Ann Keranen; sisters, Sarah (Salvador) Lopez and Amy (Mark) Spitznagel; several nieces and nephews and his girlfriend Kim Bobier.
