SCHNEIDER MEIZLISH, Karen Fae - age 67, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Avalon Hospice. Services will be held 11 AM Friday, May 1, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Rabbi Yisroel Weingarten and Rabbi Karen Companez officiating. Interment will follow at Machpelah Cemetery in Flint. She was born November 11, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan and was the loving daughter of Sylvia and Al Schneider. She graduated from Detroit's Mumford High School and went on to earn degrees from Wayne State, The University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Michigan. She was a social worker, teacher and speech pathologist in public schools in Michigan and California. In 2002, while on a tour of Eastern Europe, she met her husband, Leonard Meizlish. She moved to Flint and became an integral part of the Flint Jewish Community. She was a member of both Congregation Beth Israel and Temple Beth El. She served on the boards of the Flint Jewish Federation and Jewish Community Services. She was instrumental in bringing the Jewish Film Festival to Flint. She is survived by her husband, Leonard Meizlish; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Ruth Schneider; nephew, Benjamin Schneider; niece Rebecca Schneider (Trevor O'Reilly); great-nephew, Liam; step-daughters, Andrea Meizlish and Deborah Meizlish (Josh Botkin); grand-children, Jonah and Benjamin. She is also survived by many cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, contri-butions may be made to Congregation Beth Israel, Temple Beth El, Chabad House of Eastern Michigan, the Flint Jewish Federation or a charity of your choice.
