BASTEDO, Julia Florence, formerly known as Bester, was born November 14, 1935 to Raymond and Florence Stolt in Petoskey, Michigan; passed away July 19, 2021 in Durand, MI with hospice.  She has lived in Byron, MI with her partner, Larry McCarthy for the past 11 years.  She previously resided in the Flint area for several years.  Julia had graduated from Petoskey High School in 1953 and went on to go to school for nursing.  She did several different jobs throughout her life while raising her family and functions with the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Flint.  Julia was a proud and very active member and past commander of the Marine Corp Auxiliary League, Detachment #155 of Flint due to her son Rex being a Marine overseas. Julia is preceded in death by her son Rex, son Dennis, daughter Debra, great grandson Rexton, great grandson Conner and brother Richard.  She is survived by her partner Larry McCarthy, her son Brian (Tessie Hawkins) Bastedo of Tyler, TX, daughter Kimberly (JR) Moody of Indian River, MI, her nephew Bobby (Bonnie) Wallin of Wolverine, MI, sister Margaret Saunders of Florida, 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends that felt like family to her. Julia loved to cook and bake, but most of all, she enjoyed sharing her baked goods with others to savor.  Travel was another love of hers; she and Larry travelled quite a bit, enjoying some wine tasting along the way.  She was a big NASCAR fan along with her nephew Bobby.  She was an avid gardener and loved keeping up with the landscaping around the home she shared with Larry.  Julia was always ready to help others in need and supported charities with one of her favorites being the Women’s Resource Center. She will be greatly missed and was loved by many. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your local Women’s Resource Center in her name. Funeral services will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd,Fenton, MI on Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 10am to 2pm visitation, service at 2pm, followed by graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery, 301 S Leroy St, Fenton, MI officiated by Rev.
