Judith Lee Pomplun was born in Richland Center, WI to Wally and Lucy Pomplun. She grew up in Portage, WI and graduated from Portage High School in 1957 where she led the marching band. She attended nursing school in Wausau, WI and married John Wieloch of Wausau in 1961. The couple lived in Madison where Judy worked at the Methodist Hospital before moving to Flint, Michigan in 1965. A registered nurse, she worked for many years at St. Joseph’s Hospital, becoming one of the first Certified Emergency Room Nurses in the country. She enjoyed teaching nurses, paramedics, and others in CPR and ER skills. During the latter part of her career, she transitioned to elder and critical care nursing by becoming the Director of Nursing at several nursing homes in lower Michigan. She particularly enjoyed working with the elderly and was asked to serve on a Nursing Home Task Force by Governor Miliken.
Judy loved family and enjoyed spending time with her sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews. She was also a devoted mother, class parent, brownie troop leader, neighborhood medic, and ringette/hockey mom, and neighborhood block party organizer. She was promoted to devoted grandmother and babysitter. She loved fast cars and was fortunate to have a husband working for General Motors. She was a sports fan and was able to see the Green Bay Packers play in the very first superbowl. Judy was lucky to have many wonderful friends throughout her life….in high school, nursing school, in Madison, in Flint, and friends she made through her children. She had a big heart and loved helping others, especially those less fortunate than herself.
She is survived by her husband, John Wieloch, daughter Jennifer Wieloch Goswami (Joydeep), son Joseph Wieloch (Waldina), adopted niece Monica Pomplun Atterberry; grandchildren, Marissa, Sameer, Isabella, and Jacob; brother William Pomplun (Jean), sister Susan Pomplun Cawley (David), sister Paula Pomplun, and brother Robert Pomplun (Joan). Arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Homes Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton.
