Judith Stoeri

October 5, 1944 — February 2, 2018

STOERI, Judith Lynn - Age 73, of Fenton, died at Vicinia Gardens in Fenton on February 2, 2018. Services will be held at a later date. She was born on October 5, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio to Edgar and Opal Stoeri. When she was 6, she and her family moved to the Benton Harbor area where she graduated from Benton Harbor High School as class Valedictorian. Judy continued her education at Michigan State University earning a BS in mathematics and teaching certification. Later she completed her Master's degree at the University of Michigan (but remained a life long Spartan fan). In 1967 Judy became employed as a math teacher at Linden High School where she proceeded to teach and provide computer knowledge and services for the next 37 years. Always a dedicated and involved educator, Judy served for many years as math department chairperson, MACUL Conference attendee and presenter, National Honor Society advisor, class sponsor and Delta Kappa Gamma-Gamma Beta chapter active participant and treasurer. During the late 1960's she became interested in computers and with her self taught knowledge was instrumental in the early 1970's in providing students opportunities to get involved with this new technology. Not one to sit idle, after retirement Judy became a volunteer at Genesys hospital two days a week. Throughout her life, Judy greatly enjoyed photography and her travels in the U.S. - favorites being our National Parks and Native American culture. Eventually, travels took her and her sister to European countries, and Australia and New Zealand. Other hobbies were reading mysteries and science fiction, cooking, and baking her fabulous Christmas cookie trays. Judy is survived by her sister Patricia Stoeri of Bel Air, Maryland and her good friends. She will be remembered by the numerous students to whom she taught math and computer science and by the countless athletes and their families with whom she made contact during her years as girls track coach and her many, many years of score keeping for boys and girls basketball games, volleyball and track and cross country meets. In 2013 as an honor to Judy for her many years of involvement, Judy was elected into the high school Sport's Hall of Fame and given a Special Service Award. One student's recent comment says it so well - Loved her humor and smile -- as a coach she was the best. Bless you, Miss Stoeri, you have touched so many lives in an everlasting way.
