Judith Lynn (nee Wright) Fortino, 76, of Swartz Creek passed away peacefully and suddenly surrounded by her loving family November 21, 2023, at Hurley Medical Center in Flint.
She was born to Evelyn (nee Barker) and J.D. Wright in Flint January 6, 1947. She grew up in Swartz Creek and was a 1965 graduate of Swartz Creek High School. Judi attended the School of Nursing University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1969.
She married her high school sweetheart Paul Joseph Fortino May 17, 1969. The couple moved to Gaines Township in 1971. They had six daughters Maria, Alicia, Elizabeth, Melissa, Angela, and Stephanie born over the span of 19 years.
Judi began her career as a registered nurse working at Flint public health. She spent 30 years employed at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, where she worked as a certified childbirth educator and lactation consultant. Following her retirement from Hurley in 2005, Judi worked as an immunization nurse and traveling school nurse for Shiawassee County Health Department and retired again in 2014.
Judi enjoyed spending summers throughout her life with family at Houghton Lake. She also made many trips across the state visiting all her girls and her grandchildren.
She was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan and was an avid fan of Michigan football and the Michigan Marching Band. She was also active on the Class of 1965 reunion planning committee.
She was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church Parish in Durand.
Judi is survived by Paul, her loving husband of 54 years; her daughters and their families: Maria Fortino of Glendale, Arizona, Alicia and Christopher Marting of Dundee, Melissa Fortino of Royal Oak, Angela Fortino and Benjamin Moulton of Hamtramck, Stephanie Fortino of St. Ignace; her grandchildren Brandon Marting of Denver, Colorado, and Renee Marting of Holland; her sister and brother-in-law Cinda and James Stark of West Olive; her siblings-in-law, Teresa O’Brien of Swartz Creek, Mary Ann and Victor Dipzinski of Clio, Robert Fortino of Canton, Ohio, David and Mary Fortino of Swartz Creek, and Jim Fortino of Swartz Creek; several nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Elizabeth, brother Robert Wright, brother-in-law Mark Fortino, mother Evelynn Wright, father J.D. Wright, and parents-in-law Robert and Dorothy Fortino.
Visitation will be at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI 48473 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 26, and from noon to 7 p.m. Monday, November 27, followed by a rosary. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Durand at 700 Columbia Dr., Durand, MI 48429. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau will officiate with burial immediately following at New Calvary Cemetery in Flint.
