Joyce Vandette

Joyce L. VanDette, age 93, of Engelwood, Florida, passed away in Swartz Creek, MI on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 11AM at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 4413 Morrish Road in Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022, starting at 10AM until 11AM at church. Prior to the visitation a rosary will be prayed in the church at 9:30AM. Joyce was born on May 30, 1929, in Flint, Michigan to the late Leonard (Annette) VanDette. She was employed by the Flint School District as a Vocational Educator for 16 years. Joyce was a Master Graphoanaylst. She did private consultations, group presentations and was a consultant for court related forgeries. She also owned and operated the Wayside Inn, a popular eatery, for many years. Through her first marriage to John Zvonyik; they were blessed with their four children. John preceded her in death in 1990. After many years Joyce found love again and married the late Eugene Lincoln and was blessed with a second family.

Joyce was a devout Catholic. She had a deep faith in Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Joyce was an avid card player and some of her most favorite games were Bridge, Poker, Rummy and Solitaire. She also enjoyed playing Yahtzee and Scrabble. Joyce was gifted in the art of crochet and all towels had her finishing touch along the edges. She will forever be missed as being the Nana and the Aunt who never forgot a birthday. She was a wonderful cook and baker and shared her knowledge with lots of family members. The aroma of her homemade bread was tantalizing for all who entered her kitchen.

She is survived by her four children, John L. Zvonyik of Engelwood, FL, JoAnne (Dennis) Stearns of Swartz Creek, Judy (John) Loncarevic of Davison and Jeanne Steibel of Swartz Creek; 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; her sister, Delores Roberts, and sisters-in-law, Barbara and Christina VanDette. Joyce is further survived by her stepchildren, Lynn (James) Kerr, Jeff Lincoln and Terry Lincoln, 10 step-grandchildren, 32 step-great grandchildren, and 2 step-great great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her first husband, John, her second husband, Eugene; brothers, Robert & Leonard VanDette; and great grandson Aaron John Steibel. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
